Guam – A little adoration for Guam’s chief ballot protector ensued the day after Christmas. After managing fractious expectations throughout a contentious election season, it may be nice to know one’s efforts to maintain law and order haven’t gone unnoticed.
Guam Election Commission Executive Director Maria Pangelinan was feted by GEC staffers and commissioners at the Guam Congress Building in Hagatna for a job well done throughout the 2018 election cycle, which included both a primary and a special election on August 25th, plus a general election on November 6th, as well as ballot certification on November 23rd.
Outgoing freshman Sen. Fernando Esteves (R), who did not run for reelection this year, formally presented Resolution No. 557-34 (LS) to Pangelinan on Wednesday afternoon. The document recognizes and commends Pangelinan for her outstanding service and for raising the public’s standards and expectations for knowledge, efficiency, and transparency for directors of all departments and agencies in the Government of Guam.
The Election Commission juggled the added task of balancing the needs and expectations of the Aguon Limtiaco Democratic gubernatorial team with those of other candidates after Sen. Frank Aguon, Jr. (D) and his running mate and former US Attorney Alicia Limtiaco finished a close second in the primary and mounted a highly organized write-in campaign leading into the general.
