Tissue samples have been sent to GMH to determine whether the victim suffered a heart attack.

Guam – Although Medical Examiner Dr. Aurelio Espinola says a tourist who was found lifeless in the water behind Lotte Hotel over the weekend did indeed drown, it’s possible the man may have suffered a heart attack first.

Dr. Espinola identified the victim as 57-year-old Jeong Lee and confirmed he died of asphyxia due to near-drowning. However, because the victim was found in shallow water, Dr. Espinola suspect Lee may have suffered a heart attack first.

Tissue samples have been sent to the Guam Memorial Hospital for testing.

Guam Fire officials said the drowning was reported around 11:45 am Saturday. Lifeguards on duty initiated CPR on the scene which was continued en route to the Guam Regional Medical City.

This marks the 11th water-related fatality of the year.
