Low water pressure leads to cancellation of classes at new GACS campus

The school year is off to a rough start for the Guahan Academy Charter School’s new campus, as high school and middle school students will not have classes on Wednesday.

Guam – Tuesday marked the first day of classes for students in the middle school and high school levels attending the Guahan Academy Charter School. But an inspection of the new campus by the Guam Fire Department has lead to the cancellation of classes on Wednesday.

“Classes are going to be canceled for tomorrow due to low water pressure not meeting fire code. The PSI is only at 10 and it is required that the PSI level be at 60,” stated Assistant Principal Terry Cruz.

The start of the school year was already delayed once, with student’s first day of school pushed back to September 5, 2017, nearly two weeks after DOE students began their school year. The late start was a result of the new campus not being ready to accommodate its students.  At this time, the GACS administration is unsure when classes will resume as water levels must be up to code.
