Justice Torres to receive honorary doctorate in Manila

Supreme Court Justice Robert J. Torres will be awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws at the graduation ceremony of Centro Escolar University Makati in Manila, Philippines on Thursday.

Guam - In recognition of his achievements in the field of law, Guam Supreme Court Justice Robert J. Torres will be awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws at the graduation ceremony of Centro Escolar University Makati in Manila, Philippines on Thursday.

Other distinguished recipients of the honorary degree include former Presidents of the Philippines, Fidel V. Ramos and Benigno S. Aquino, III, former Chief Justices of the Supreme Court of the Philippines, Enrique M. Fernando, Claudio Teehankee, and Marcelo B. Fernan and, the late former senator, Mariam Defensor Santiago. Justice Torres will be the first foreign-born recipient. He was also a recipient of an honorary Doctor of Laws (LL.D.) from the University of Cebu in 2011.

Centro Escolar University of the Philippines School of Law and Jurisprudence has been recently recognized as one of the best performing law schools. Aside from being awarded an honorary degree, Justice Torres will also be the keynote commencement speaker.

The graduation ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 20, in Manila, Philippines.
