Three local bands recognized for their contribution to war veterans.

Guam - The Guam War Survivors Memorial Foundation presented their legacy gifts this morning recognizing three organizations that have forwarded the art of music for our war veterans.

Three $1,000 checks were given to the Guam Territorial Band, the George Washington High School Vocational Band, and Lawrence Franquez 21st Annual Drum Clinic for their contributions to music here on the island of Guam.

Brandon Aydlett from the Guam Territorial Band shared how much the monetary support helps the band achieve their goals for the upcoming year.

“This is a generous donation -- the first that we've received from them in our support for the Sentimental Journey concerts back in 2016. We're sending about 24 people from Guam. We'll be traveling to North Carolina and New York City. While in the midst of fundraising, such support from the foundation is a great help. Every little bit helps. We have some members who have to pinch to raise the funds, so every little bit helps and a thousand dollars helps us quite a ways,” he said.

The Guam War Survivors Memorial Foundation says that the concert involving all three organizations last summer was such a hit that the public can look forward to an encore performance this summer as well.
