LGBT travel author helps GVB market to same-sex marriage market

The Guam Visitor’s Bureau will be working on improving Guam’s LGBT visitor market.

Guam – A recent GVB membership mixer featured guest Speaker Andrew Collins who will be helping GVB’s marketing department create tools to promote Guam’s Visitor market to the LGBT community. Collins has been writing for and editing LGBT and mainstream travel guidebooks, magazines, and newspapers for nearly three decades. Same sex marriage is legal on Guam and while the island already has a well-established wedding market for Japanese tourists it has not really developed one for the LGBT tourist.

“I came here tonight to give a little bit of a talk about how the tourism community specifically on Guam can help in the initiative of the Guam Visitors Bureau to reach out to LGBT couples really all over but especially in the Pacific Rim and let them know that Guam is a wonderful place to get married and that LGBT marriages are legal here. In fact, I think most people around the world including in the mainland U.S. don’t even know that Guam legalized gay marriage before even the Supreme Court did federally. So that was a lot of what I was talking about and helping businesses here reach that market and let people know that Guam is such an accepting and welcoming place and all of the hotels here are enthusiastic about LGBT couples coming and marrying too,” said Collins.

Collins says he will be doing some writing for GVB and he hopes to continue to help GVB market Guam to the LGBT community.
