Young Witnesses Secure a Guilty Verdict
September 18, 2012- Hagatna, Guam- Alfredo Felijar Nicolas Jr., an employee who worked for a company that was retained by Liguan Elementary School in Dededo for janitorial services, was found guilty by a Superior Court Jury this afternoon after he molested a 5 year-old child back in January 2011.
The victim- while on his way to the after school program- stopped in the restroom where Nicolas invited him to “pee” with him, then molested the victim. An older child entered the restroom, observed these events, and heard Nicolas tell the victim “Don’t tell anyone.”
Nicolas is convicted of second degree criminal sexual conduct as a first degree felony and will be imprisoned anywhere from three to 15 years.
“I cannot reiterate the amount of bravery and courage it took for the young victim and witness to come forward and testify against the perpetrator. We are very proud and thankful for their gallant efforts. They are heroes and serve as a beacon of light for others who may be afraid to come forward and tell their stories,” said Attorney General Rapadas
“This case is a victory for all the child victims of Guam,” said Prosecuting Attorney Brian Gallagher.
“I’d like to thank the Jury for their thoughtful deliberations, members of law enforcement that assisted in the investigation and prosecution of this case and to my fellow colleagues and management team for their support and dedication. Most importantly, I’d like to thank the victim and witness in this case; without them, we could not have put this felon behind bars, making our schools and streets a safer place for our kids,” he continued
Nicolas’ sentencing is scheduled for November 14, 2012.
