Shipping Costs Only Thing Standing in the Way of a Superintendent Deal With Fernandez

Guam - The only thing standing in the way of a completed contract between the Guam Education Board and Incoming Superintendent Jon Fernandez is a clarification on moving expenses.

GEB Chairman Francis Santos says board members are trying to determine the weight limit for shipping items at the government's expense. Fernandez will be moving to Guam from Washington D.C. with his wife and children. Moving expenses were part of the contract approved by board members last week but Santos says there is still some uncertainty about what Guam law allows.

According to Santos Fernandez has accepted other terms of the contract, including the increased salary in exchange for the removal of housing and vehicle allowances.

When asked about the contract this morning (Friday) Fernandez wrote "We are close. I hope we can get a deal done today" to PNC.

The new target date for having Fernandez on the job at the Department of Education is June 15th.
