Saipan - The CNMI's Public Safety Commissioner Ramon Mafanas says that a “person of interest” has already been identified in the murder of bartender Emerita “Emie” Romero.
The Saipan Tribune reports that both Saipan police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are currently investigating the activities and events associated with this “person of interest.”
Mafnas declined to name the person but he did confirm that the “person” is still on the island.
When asked what would happen if the "person of interest" attempts to lweave island, Chief Prosecutor Peter Prestley said “we'll cross the bridge when we get there.” And when asked if Romero and the “person of interest” had a relationship, Mafnas said that nothing so far in their investigation indicates that there was a relationship between the two.
Romero was last seen alive on Feb. 5 at about 3am boarding a green or blue tinted car in the parking lot of Call-A-Ride Saipan in Garapan. FBI agents found her body two days later at the abandoned La Fiesta Mall.
