Guam – The Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPH&SS) has announced that the Division of Senior Citizens (DSC) has recently been awarded $37,943 from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The funds are to be used to continue administering the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP), locally known as the Guam Medicare Assistance Program (Guam MAP) for the period of April 1, 2011 through March 31, 2012.
The DSC has been administering the Guam MAP since 2004. Through outreach and counseling activities, program staff and volunteers provide information and assistance to Medicare beneficiaries, their families and caregivers on how to navigate through the complex Medicare system.
